Great Achievements
With the weather not being at its best over the past couple of weeks, we have all been itching to get out there and do some flying, and the bank holiday weekend allowed us to do just that. Kevin Grayson excelled himself - in his first season of microlight flying, he went out and won the Ultra-light Single Seat Rally.
Even though the weather here in the UK has not been great, Chris and Judy have been down in France doing two XC courses with the students. The second week saw pilots achieving great distances and new highs. They were joined the second week by Airways Airsports instructors Rick and Matt, who could not have chosen a better week to get away to the Alps and get some distance between them and the ground.
Here at Darley Moor, the weekend came and gave us a great three day run of Friday, Saturday and Sunday flying. Well done to Jim Gray and Howard Crabtree who only started flying on Friday morning, and by Sunday afternoon were bashing away high flights and circuits, one after another.
But the BIG congratulations has to go to Kevin Grayson who, only a few months ago qualified as a flexwing microlight pilot under the instruction of Richard Leigh and this weekend joined Richard in the USSR (Ultra light Single Seat Rally). Unfortunately Richard suffered engine problems on the second day, so Kevin pushed on alone to clock up over 1000kms in three days, of which 960kms counted towards the contest and gave Kevin the over-all victory. A great achievement for someone who, before this weekend, had only thirty hours of solo time under his belt.
And for the near future? Well with a high pressure pushing in towards the end off the week probably around Thursday we should be out there again flying. So get booked in and let’s start another adventure.
