Lack of Captain's Blogs
I must apologise straight away for the lack of Blog postings in the past month. This is not due to a lack of news, but the opposite. We have simply been grabbing every opportunity we can to fly (as anyone who has ever learnt to fly with us would confirm).
There is a firm belief around Airways Airsports, pushed in to us by our C.F.I, Chris Dawes, that whenever it is flyable, FLY; and if it is not, then do something else instead. What I have been doing is sneaking up on the weather some days, getting up really early, and beginning training by 7am. This way we can use the cool morning air to teach, before it all gets mixed up and bumpy as the sun warms things up.
This has worked really well over the past two to three weeks, letting me sign off Helen Johnston, Charles Clark, Jim Gray and Alex Higham - all CPC Paraglider winch, and I know they all agree it was well worth the early starts to grab the perfect conditions. Helen and Charles are now flying their Bailey Trike and have had some brill flights. Alex and Jim are now ready to move on to the paramotoring next time they come. Also "well done" to Tony Grady who we signed off CPC paramotor just a couple of days ago.
Judy had a great time in France with the hill conversion course, flying every day and passing four people off CPC hill. Well done to Ian Hallam, Rachel Paul, Andrew Harold and, of course, Pete "flapper"-the-Greek. Lorna Harriman and Debbie Thomas just missed out on their top landings but I know they had a fabulous time flying in the Hautes Alpes.
The flex-wing & fixed-wing microlighting and hang gliding aerotow are really doing well with students joining us all the time. They are really piling on the hours. I know by the end of the summer Chris will be signing off many more pilots.
Summer is really here now and things are going well. The weather, for the most part, has been very good with a good mix of still days and breezy conditions - just what we need to teach our students how to fly in different wind speeds.
So if you want to learn to fly, the summer of 2009 is the time to do it, so get yourself booked in and let’s go flying.
Andy
