Aerotow for Beginners
Airways Airsports is now the key center in the UK and Europe for teaching new students to hang glide using aerotow. In the past people were taught to fly on the hill, a slow and often frustrating process that more often than not left the student with no rating and generally miffed. The team of instructors at Airways Airsports helped develop aerotowing for beginners to make learning to hang glide much more practical for the average student.
A new course has been developed exclusively by Airways Airsports and hang gliding's national governing body the British Hang gliding and Paragliding Association. This syllabus is recognised as the most advanced method of learning to fly a Hang glider. Because the course is based on flying tandem with an instructor offering 100% one on one training, it reduces the time and physical effort it takes you to learn.
After an introduction to basic theory and your equipment you join your instructor in a tandem hang glider that has been optimised for teaching. From the first flight you are towed, by one of our powerful microlight tugs, to an altitude that that gives you upwards of 20 minutes tuition on each flight!
Once you are confident with the tandem flights your instructor leaves you and you fly solo for the first time. Your skills are then honed using a as many solo flights as you need to leave the school with one of the most sought after free flying endorsements.
Taking advantage of aerotow tuition followed by a short conversion to flying hills is an especially good method for getting beginners into hang gliding, as it takes all the frustration out of those early training days. This approach is universally acclaimed, especially by students who have started to learn on the hill then come to Airways Airsports frustrated by lack of progerss.
